Evan Lysacek vs. Johnny Weir

Aside from the fact that Evgeni Plushenko has the same haircut as Budnick from Salute Your Shorts, figure skating is still pretty boring. Luckily the good ol’ US of A has two fashionable ice fairies who have created friction on an otherwise harmonious playing field. Sure, figure skating has had it’s dark moment with the cattily coniving action in the 1994 Olympics, but otherwise a peaceful sport filled with good grace. Well last night was round one of a new rivalry on the ice, Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir.

The flamboyant fervery started in the States, being some of the best figure skaters in the country, the two have been competing against each other since the early teen years. Now with the media spotlight reflecting off their gelled hair, the two have grown to pop cultural relevance with costumes comparible to everyones favorite divatron, and the athletic skills to match. Last night Johnny Weir ( the Christian Lalaberte of the two, who likes to wear fur cuz its fierce and shit ) fell to an unexpected 6th place while Evan Lysacek got the Silver. This is sure to heat up the competitive nature of Weir, which brings us to tonight. Tonight will be the freestyle skate competition. The time where true artist have a chance to shine and express their skills and attire to the fullest. This is the point in the game where muthafuckas start doin backflips and shit. So it should get interesting. Anyways, other than that figure skating still kinda sucks, but hey it’s the superbowl, lets eat some wings and do some shotguns. Enjoy.

Required Reading

Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? In search of an answer, Christopher McDougall sets off to find a tribe of the world’s greatest distance runners and learn their secrets, and in the process shows us that everything we thought we knew about running is wrong . Digital Graffiti

Thought this was pretty dope, I’m curious to see what else people will do with this technology… maybe incorporate it with this?

Anyways…

“In an effort to establish new platforms for public art and performance, the multimedia duo SWEATSHOPPE has developed a new interactive technology that enables them to explore the relationship between video, mark making and architecture. Dubbed “video painting”, this technology allows them to essentially “paint” video onto any surface. Shooting in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, the duo spent weeks documenting their work in urban settings to create “The Landing” the first in a series of episodes that showcases their work as artist, technologist and performers.”

Brooklyn Boulders

I started getting into climbing back in Virginia, but since i’ve moved here have yet to be inspired enough to spend a cold 50 bones over at the Piers. Alas, a BK alternative has poked its head from the recession’s ashes.  At only $21 for a bouldering day pass, or $16 if you got shoes, the Brooklyn Boulders has a wide range of climbs, both vertical and inclined. It also provides a nice little training area, and a slack rope to test your balance while your forearms cool off. It was demoralizing experience for me the first time around ( its been a while since i’ve climbed ), but i’m definitely not scared to go back and conquer some routes. I highly recommend to anyone that generally likes a full body workout, while acting like a little monkey child.
